The Word of God is the most ancient name for the Bible because it is a record of God’s voice, and the life his voice has brought into existence. God’s Word is not a voice about God, but a voice from God. The Lutheran Confessions refer to the Word of God as the living voice of God. The Word of God tells us that when God speaks, it is such a powerful force that his words created the world out of nothing (Gen 1:3). The prophet Isaiah tells us that whenever God has spoken, his voice has always accomplished the result he intended (Is 45:23; 55:10). It is God's actual voice that has shaped history by conforming everything to his will (Ps 147). The Word of God alone is filled with power to either bless or condemn (Deut 30:16-20).
How do you describe the power of God’s Word, his voice?
